Users Who Hyped This Post

Unless you read it in the TV Guide like I did! BBC 2 are making a show about teenage "scenes" and are asking people to apply right now, scenes include Goth, a Skater, a Plastic, a Street Kid. Excuse me while I await the eye rolling shitstorm that this program will probably be, I don't even know what the fuck a Plastic is but Mean Girls came to mind (please feel free to explain to me). I showed my friend the advert and she suggested that I apply, I admit I did think about it but then Common Sense came knocking on my Brain's door: "Hello? Are you ignoring me?!"

I'm guessing whoever apply and gets in the program as the Goth may regret it, I can see all the judgements now and they even include some from within this Subculture. I'm guessing several things will happen:
- The Goth side will be portrayed in a negative light.
- The "Goth" could possibly just be a poseur and was chosen for the sake of fulfilling an ideal stereotypical.
- The applicant becomes a spokesperson for our Subculture which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's a lot of pressure for one person and they'll no doubt, because they're human beings and everyone does, slip up slightly and make a comment that'll piss off a few people.
- Swapping a weekend with someone from another completely opposite subculture.

That sounds judgemental and very negative I know but I'd rather not get my hopes up that whoever represents us could change the public's low opinion of us. Lets just take a look at the last time the BBC choose to talk about Goth here and you can form your own opinion. The website to apply and some information if you're interested here.

Were they the ones that broadcast "Brat Camp"? If so I think they might be trouble.

Damn, Juliet, you always get the good topics first... makes good reading though. ^^
You know what... I am so tempted to apply. I might do, but I'm just out of the young-teenage bracket so I'm probably not malleable/gullible enough to produce the response they're looking for. Mind you, probably pays better than an office job...

I think Brat Camp was on Channel four but it's all the same thing really. Shit.
Yeah I did think of applying too but I couldn't handle the pressure of it, LOL what if everyone in clubs saw the show and disowned me </3

...wow. Never seen that BBC article before, if they haven't learnt from their mistakes I doubt this program will be giving Goth a very good name. =/

Wow those "Goths" on that information page are really Goth... Good Charlotte, Manson and Slipknot??? Surely the producers would have HAD to do some research about their topics... But then again, obviously not.
